God was with me when I chose Tennessee Valley Laser Center. I could not be any happier with the professionalism and bedside manner of both my surgeon and the staff. My ‘new’ eyes make me feel like a new person. I promise to never take my eyesight for granted! Before my LASIK surgery, I could not even read my alarm clock without picking up the clock and bringing it to my face. Also, my contacts would often be itchy and get dry at night, making me tired. I had surgery in 2008. I began having difficulty with my vision when I was in 2nd grade. I was 35 years old when I finally made the decision to have the LASIK procedure. I work in an industry that restores hearing through a surgical procedure, but was always very uncertain about having surgery myself to improve my own vision. I could not be happier with the decision I made. I travel quite a often with my job and had difficulty even with corrective lenses seeing road signs, particularly at night. I struggled with reading menus on the wall in cafes and wore my contact lenses to sleep in for safety reasons….I really could not see at all without them. I was to the point where my eyes were beginning to become unhealthy because of the way I abused my contact lenses. If I had to do it all over, I would have the surgery again though I would not have waited so long. Dr. Bodenheimer and his staff are excellent! They talked me through the procedure and helped me remain calm. Dr. Bodenheimer asked to pray wtih me prior to the procedure as well. I was immediately at ease. I would highly recommend this facility as well as this procedure. .

At Tennessee Valley Laser Center we recommend that you plan to be off work for at least one day following laser vision surgery. Although, it is not uncommon for patients to resume their normal work activity the very next day, your eyes will be light sensitive for the first 24 to 48 hours after surgery.

What is the procedure of Laser Vision Correction?

Once you become accustomed to the sound of the laser, anesthetic drops will be placed in your eye to numb it. In the laser room, you will be seated in a reclining chair the physician will position your head under the laser, and a retainer will be placed between your eyelids to gently hold them open during the treatment. A flap of tissue will be created on the front surface of your cornea using a highly sophisticated Intralase. You will then be asked to focus on a blinking red light while the laser rreshapes the cornea. The laser will treat your eye for less than one minute and your total time in the laser area will be about 10-15 minutes per eye. The flap will then be repositioned. After your laser treatment is complete, some drops and a protective clear plastic shield/goggle will be placed on your eyes for protection and comfort. While the actual procedure is painless due to the numbing drops, you may experience some slight irritation during the immediate post-operative period.
